460th BG Escape Statements

The following two "Escape Statements" were found in the 460th Bomb Group
History Documents (microfilmed) held by the Air Force at AFHRA, Maxwell AFB, Alabama.
Mr. Bernhardt, MIA (Missing in Action) 30 June 1944, spent his confinement as a
POW in Budapest and returned to duty on 9 March 1945 just after the bombing of Szombathely. His observations
and experience give great insight as to the conditions in Budapest during the war. He died in October 1980.
In the report, the names of Hungarian citizens in Budapest have been noted and although
they may have all passed by now, the building locations may still be standing. Family members now, who
may be descendents, may also wish to provide additional personal history, perhaps a photograph or other
information for a broader historical understanding of this period, may do so by contacting this historian. This
new information will be added as an attachment to the original document. Historical locations and buildings
mentioned in the statement may still be standing and the Project Manager of this web site would welcome
any images of the hospital or exteriors of the locations mentioned.
Mr. Anspach, MIA 1 March 1945 was sent to Germany and returned to duty on 21
April 1945. Any additional information or photographs will be made as attachments to this document.

Translations into Hungarian of these two military documents would be very helpful to
reach non-English speaking Hungarians there and around the world. Splitting documents up amongst
several translators would shorten the time delay and we can then do the compiling and editing here prior

A 460-as Bombázó Csoport történetében található
az alábbi "Két menekülés leirása" című elbeszélés,
amelyeket mikrofilmen tárolnak a Légierők AFHAR részlegében a Maxwell
Légibázison Alabama államban.
Mr. Bernhart 1944 június 30-ával kezdődően Budapesten
volt hadifogoly, s pár nappal Szombathely bombázása után, 1945 március
9-én tért vissza az Amerikai Légierőkhöz. Az ő meglátásai és
tapasztalatai kellően illusztrálják a háborús budapesti állapotokat.
1980 októberében halt meg.
Leirásában budapesti polgárokat nevez meg, akik ma már
nem élhetnek, de az emlitett helyeket valószínüleg meg lehetne találni.
Ha a leszármazottak szeretnének hozzájárulni ehhez az iráshoz személyes
emlékekkel, fényképekkel vagy iratokkal, kérem hogy lépjenek összeköttetésbe
ennek a honlapnak a történészével. Az újabb adatok hozzásegítenék
az olvasót ennek a történelmi időszaknak még szélesebb körű
megértéséhez. Szivesen hozzácsatolnánk a családi emlékeket az
eredeti dokumentációhoz. Mivel az emlitett helyek és épületek még
mindig létezhetnek, a honlap Project Manager-e szivesen fogadna felvételeket a kórházról
és egyéb épületekről, amelyek a történetben szerepelnek.
Mr. Anspach 1945 március 1-én tünt el, majd Németországba
került. Végül 1945 április 21-én tért vissza az Amerikai Légierők-höz.
Ha valaki újabb információt vagy fényképet tudna szolgáltatni róla,
szivesen hozzá csatoljuk ehhez a leiráshoz.
A beküldött személyes fényképeket és életrajzi
információt csak történelmi jelentőségük miatt kérjük,
és azzal a feltételezéssel fogadjuk el, hogy az adományozók engedélyt
adnak a dokumentumok publikálására ezen a honlapon. Ha valaki újabb
adatokkal szeretné bőviteni e honlapot, vagy újabb információt szeretne
kapni, kérem lépjen kapcsolatba e honlap Project Managerével a lap alján
található email cimen. Nagy segitség lenne, ha valaki vállalkozna ennek a
két katonai reportnak a magyarra való fordítására, hogy az angol tudással
nem rendelkező magyarok is olvashassák. A fordítás műveletét
fel lehetne gyorsítani, ha többen megosztanák a munkát, amelyet aztán
összeállítás után feltehetnénk a honlapra. A forditók neveit
természetesen feltüntetjük az utolsó oldalon.
